From May 17 to June 16, 2024.
PHOS is an event dedicated to the photographic image and its diverse uses in the visual, digital and multidisciplinary arts. PHOS includes exhibitions, performances, talks, workshops and interventions in public spaces.
The theme ART · SCIENCE · KNOWLEDGE is at the heart of the 11th edition. Art and science maintain intimate relationships that, as they unfold, reveal more about ourselves and allow us to imagine the future. Art can testify to the sensibly difficult-to-quantify experience, just as science can reveal the invisible that surrounds us, through research and experimentation leading to complementary knowledge. The evolution of modern artistic practices is inseparable from scientific and technological progress; it offers a critical perspective on it.
In an era where science and technology are omnipresent in all spheres of existence, as the consequences of the excesses of our fast-paced consumption lifestyles are increasingly felt, what should we understand and preserve from the present, and how do we build the future? Resolutely multidisciplinary, inclusive, and multigenerational, the 11th edition of PHOS will seek to answer these questions through photography, video, augmented and virtual reality, multimedia installation, youth theater, and performance. From science fiction imagery to the digitization of physical reality, through tool diversion and technological innovation, from popular knowledge to laboratory research, including the microscopic and the immaterial, the 2024 program will showcase several of Canada's most current, interesting, and relevant works today. And, true to tradition, it reserves a large space for presenting works from emerging college talent.
Program unveiling on April 30, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Joseph-Rouleau Cultural Center.
