This lighthouse, dating back to 1907, offers a splendid view of the city of Matane and the St.Lawrence River. From the top of this cylindrical tower of over twenty meters, observe maritime traffic, the wind turbines, and the Chic-Chocs mountains. Discover the history of the Matane lighthouse, its keepers, and its preservation after nearly being demolished in the 1950s. Note that the keeper's house also hosts the La Matanie Tourist Information Office as well as a shop selling products and souvenirs made by local artists and artisans.
Visiting the lighthouse tower can be done independently, with or without the audio guide. It is also offered at certain times by an interpreter-guide (stay tuned for the guided tour schedule). We strongly recommend booking your visit by phone at 418-562-1065. Please wear appropriate shoes for climbing the lighthouse: high heels and sandals without heel straps are not allowed.
